Former UConn guard Tyrese Martin has signed a one-year contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania. Martin will have a chance to compete for a regular season roster spot with the Wolves, according to the report.

Martin spent his rookie season last year with the Atlanta Hawks, who took him with the 51st overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. He spent most of his time with Atlanta’s G League affiliate in College Park, Ga., but played in 16 games for Atlanta and posted 1.3 points in just four minutes per game.
The 24-year-old played two seasons for UConn from 2020-22, transferring to Storrs to follow Dan Hurley, who recruited him at the University of Rhode Island, where Martin spent the first two years of his college career. The 6-6 guard averaged 13.6 points and 7.5 rebounds as a senior and helped lead the Huskies to the NCAA Tournament.
The Hawks released Martin following Summer League in July, ahead of the date when his contract would have become guaranteed for next season.
