Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young was snubbed from Team USA during this summer’s World Cup despite showing an interest in playing. The two-time NBA All-Star gave his thoughts at Media Day and didn’t hold back.
“If you don’t think I’ve been disrespected, you’re just not telling the truth,” Young said, per Kevin Chouinard of Hawks.com.
Young has led the NBA in total assists for the past two seasons. During the 2022-23 campaign, he recorded 741 assists, averaging 10.2 dimes across 73 games. He also averaged 26.2 points per contest last season and led his team to the playoffs. Young still did not make the All-Star team, not even as a reserve.
The year before, Young led the league in total points and assists with 2,155 points and 737 dimes. For a player of his caliber, Young has not gotten the consistent level of respect that many of his counterparts have received.

While Young leaves a lot to be desired on the defensive end, there is no denying his offensive brilliance at the point guard position. Over the past two seasons, the Hawks have gone 6-9 in games without him.
While Atlanta’s franchise player believes he deserves more respect, he isn’t worried about individual accomplishments heading into the new season. Terrell Thomas of TheseUrbanTimes asked Young about his thoughts on the upcoming campaign.
“That’s not my goal, being on an All-Star team… I should’ve been on it already,” Young said. “I’m ready to get going. I think Quin has done a great job… I’m just ready to play. We were already a really good offense, but I feel like our offense is gonna go to a whole other level, which is really scary… I’m just excited to start playing.”
