One of the most legendary vehicles in the history of the Indian defense services, the Nissan 1-tonne military truck, still holds an iconic status in the country. Due to its reliability and robust persona, the Nissan 1-Tonne military truck, popularly known as JONGA during its existence, was favored by the Indian defense services in the past. Here, we have come across a video from North India, which shows how a group of men has converted another old military truck to make it resemble a Nissan 1-Tonne.
The video is from the YouTube channel of Small Town Rider, which depicts a group of men from North India operating a small garage. They took an old 1980s military truck and modified it to give it the appearance of a Nissan 1-Tonne. These individuals have completely altered the bodywork of the truck to resemble the Nissan 1-Tonne, evident in the design of the door panels, pillars, fenders, and bonnet. This vehicle also features a vertical grille and rounded halogen lights at the front and a deck behind the rear compartment.

The Nissan 1-Tonne lookalike military truck has been equipped with 20-inch tires, typically used in heavy-duty trucks. Other alterations and additions introduced to this vehicle include a snorkel mounted on the left-side fender, customized front and rear differentials, power steering, and new leaf springs for the suspension. The door panels have been sourced from a Mahindra Bolero, transforming this truck into a four-door vehicle.
At the rear, there is a metallic bar below the rear deck, integrated with tail lamps sourced from a Maruti Suzuki Gypsy. The video also provides a detailed look at the engine compartment, housing a 5.0-liter diesel engine producing 180 bhp of maximum power. The engine features a radiator sourced from a Tata 407 truck and an AC compressor from a Mahindra Thar.
Cabin take pieces from Thar and Fortuner
The video offers glimpses of the interior, revealing that the cabin layout has been adapted from the first-generation Mahindra Thar, and the seats have been taken from a first-generation Toyota Fortuner. Other elements of the dashboard, such as a center console with rounded AC vents, a three-pod instrument console, and a three-spoke steering wheel, have been borrowed from a Mahindra Thar. This vehicle also features an electronic four-wheel-drive switch sourced from a Tata Safari.
The creators behind this project have mentioned that the modification work on this vehicle is still in progress, which is evident from its unfinished appearance. The vehicle still requires finishing work for its mechanical components and paint job, but once completed, it is expected to look even more appealing.
