In July, Hyundai introduced the Exter to the Indian market at an enticing starting price of Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom). However, the carmaker has now adjusted the pricing for this sub-4 meter crossover, with prices seeing an increase of up to Rs 16,000. In other words, the introductory prices at which the Exter was launched are no longer applicable.
The Hyundai Exter is available in five different variants. Interestingly, the base EX MT and SX (O) Connect AMT variants have retained their original pricing. However, the other variants have witnessed price adjustments. The top-of-the-line SX (O) Connect AMT Dual Tone variant sees only a marginal increase of Rs 5,000, while the SX (O) Connect MT Dual Tone variant gets the highest price revision, up by Rs 16,000. The rest of the variants now cost Rs 10,400 more.

Under the Exter’s hood lies a capable 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 83 BHP and 114 Nm of torque when running on petrol. However, with CNG, the power figures drop to 69 BHP and 95.2 Nm. While the petrol version of the SUV offers a choice between a 5-speed manual gearbox or an AMT, the CNG variant comes exclusively with a manual transmission.
The Hyundai Exter draws its power from a 1.2L Kappa petrol engine, also found in other Hyundai models like the Grand i10 Nios, i20, and Venue. This robust engine delivers 83hp and 114Nm of torque. The Exter is available in both petrol and CNG options, with a manual or a 5-speed AMT transmission. The CNG variant, while sharing the same engine, produces a reduced power output of 69hp and 95.2Nm of torque. On the efficiency front, the CNG variant boasts a mileage of approximately 27.1 km/kg, while the petrol variant offers an impressive 19.4 kmpl.
Despite its budget-friendly positioning, the Hyundai Exter doesn’t compromise on features. It packs a punch with factory-fitted dashcams, automatic projector headlamps, keyless entry and go, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless charging, and built-in navigation. Safety hasn’t been overlooked, with six airbags, ESC, hill assist control, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and camera, and three-point seatbelts across all seats. The Hyundai Exter emerges as a fiercely competitive and value-packed offering in its segment, setting the stage for some intense rivalry among its peers. The Hyundai Exter’s chief rival is the Tata Punch micro SUV.
