2025's The Exorcist: Deceiver is still on track despite the reception of the new movie The Exorcist: Believer. Believer, which is the intended starting point for a trilogy of sequels to the 1973 classic The Exorcist, follows father Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom Jr.) approaching legacy character Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn) for help when his daughter and her friend become possessed. The movie's $26.5 million domestic opening fell short of its original $30-$35 million projections, which were already considered a disappointment. This lukewarm commercial reception was met with a dire critical reception in the form of a 24% Rotten Tomatoes score.
