The Hyundai Exter, which made its debut in July this year at a competitive starting price of Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom), has garnered immense popularity with over 75,000 bookings. In light of the soaring demand and waiting periods stretching up to nine months, Hyundai has made the strategic decision to bolster its production capacity.
Notably, it’s the top-spec variants of the Exter that have been witnessing the strongest demand. Initially, Hyundai was churning out 6,000 units of the Exter each month. However, recognizing the need to keep up with the surging interest, the automaker has substantially increased its production rate to 8,000 units per month.

Hyundai’s manufacturing hub in Chennai, apart from catering to domestic demand, also caters to export markets. Recent reports suggest that Hyundai is now strategically diverting a portion of the export volumes to serve the robust domestic demand. Looking ahead, the automaker is likely to consider further escalations in production capacity, with potential plans on the horizon for the coming year.
The Hyundai Exter, with its competitive pricing and impressive features, made its grand entrance into the Indian market earlier this year. It offers a variety of variants to cater to diverse customer preferences, including the EX, S, SX, SX(O), and SX(O) Connect. Powering the Hyundai Exter is a dynamic 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that generates a robust 83 BHP and 114 Nm of torque when operating on petrol. However, in the CNG variant, the power output slightly reduces to 69 BHP and 95.2 Nm. The petrol version of this versatile SUV offers the driver a choice between a 5-speed manual gearbox or an AMT for a convenient driving experience. Meanwhile, the CNG variant comes standard with a manual transmission.
This remarkable achievement is further enhanced by the Exter’s well-rounded features and excellent value proposition. It’s equipped with a factory-fitted dashcam, automatic projector headlamps, keyless entry and start, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless charging, and in-built navigation.
Safety remains a top priority for Hyundai. The Exter comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features, including six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), hill assist control, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), rear parking sensors and camera, and three-point seatbelts for all occupants.
Regarding pricing, it’s noteworthy that the Hyundai Exter recently witnessed an increase in prices.
While the prices for the base variants, EX MT and SX (O) Connect AMT, remain unchanged, all other variants have witnessed an uptick in pricing. Notably, the top-of-the-line SX (O) Connect AMT Dual Tone has received a nominal hike of Rs. 5,000. In contrast, the SX (O) Connect MT Dual Tone has experienced the highest price revision, with an increase of Rs. 16,000. Prices for all other variants have risen by Rs. 10,400. As the Hyundai Exter continues to make waves in its segment, surpassing milestones and setting new benchmarks, it raises the bar for its competitors.
