A low-mileage DeLorean DMC-12 has just been pulled from a barn in Southern Wisconsin and now under new ownership, it could soon be back up and running.
This particular DeLorean was discovered by the owner of restoration firm DeLorean Midwest, Michael McElhattan, hidden at the back of a barn It was found covered in a thick layer of dust and had apparently been sitting in the same spot for upwards of 20 years. As for the odometer? Well, it reveals that the car has only ever been driven 977 miles (1,572 km), a remarkably low sum considering the car was built in 1981.
The DeLorean had been sitting for so long that it had started to sink into the dirt floor of the barn. Opening up the key reveals that the struts used for the gullwing doors remain fully functional after all these years but a family of mice had called the car home, leaving it with a horrible stench and droppings all throughout. In fact, the YouTube video detailing the car shows plenty of mice running around in the car.

A look under the DMC-12 shows there is a little bit of surface rust on the control arms, as well as rust on some of the bolts around the oil sump. However, the vehicle’s frame appears to be in good condition and shows no signs of it ever driving on salted roads. A look at the VIN reveals that this is number #1072 and is, therefore, considered one of the early builds.
The team managed to pull the car out with their pickup and brought it into the outside world for the first time in two decades. Given how long it has been sitting and unused, it’s in relatively good condition. In fact, not even the headliner is sagging.
