One of the most important and noteworthy automotive anniversaries this year is the centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, first held in 1923 and still running on what’s a recognizable evolution of the original Sarthe circuit. A book that marks the anniversary of this iconic motorsport classic would have been conspicuous by its absence. Motorbooks has retained the well-respected British historian Glen Smale to reconstruct the race’s history into individual year-by-year chapters, here outlined in 240 hardcover pages with an elegant slipcase.
The chapters are grouped into decades, with each consisting of two pages in the book with a selection of relevant, captioned photos, and a capsule of the podium results. Each year’s entry is a capsulized narrative that tells the story of the race in concise and useful fashion.
