Toyota has released images of two newly announced EV concept cars set to debut at the Japan Mobility Show later this month.
Beginning with the Toyota FT-Se concept, a high-performance EV sports car, we find what looks to be a low-slung, swoopy coupe that, dare we say, MIGHT have a little bit of Toyota MR-2 in its design—presented in a fiery burnt orange shade with dark accents and aggressive diffuser at the rear. A peak inside reveals a low, driver-focused cockpit with a steering wheel surrounded by three separate screens, which Toyota says are meant to deliver a more immersive driving experience. Toyota also specifically mentions “new-design kneepads to protect the body from G-forces.” We can’t wait to try them out ourselves.
Next, we have the Toyota FT-3e concept, a next-generation SUV-type EV that shares many components with the Toyota FT-Se concept. From the two images Toyota shared, we can make out what looks to be a rakish SUV coupe-style vehicle that combines sporty swept-back proportions with a bit of chunky geometry for added ruggedness. Digital displays are embedded in the lower side of the body, extending up to the upper door with the ability to present drivers with information such as battery state of charge and interior temperature as they approach the vehicle. No interior images were provided, but it’s safe to assume we’ll also see plenty of screens in the Toyota FT-3e as well.
The Toyota FT-Se and Toyota FT-3e concepts are designed to “evolve into one-of-a-kind vehicles that owners will cherish” and “offer the pleasure of a personal, customised ride and convenience functions.” Take that for what you will, though it sounds like Toyota will be upping their software update game to provide users with more information and customization options.
Toyota is looking to close the gap regarding their EV efforts quickly, and these two concepts could to be exciting previews of what we can expect from their next generation of BEVs.
The Toyota FT-Se and Toyota FT-3e concepts will debut at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo on October 26th.
