The Golden State Warriors will be without Draymond Green in their season opener versus the Phoenix Suns, according to NBA reporter Kendra Andrews of ESPN. Green is dealing with a sprained left ankle.
The Warriors were expected to start Chris Paul, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins and Green versus the Suns. Golden State will likely start Paul, Curry, Thompson, Wiggins and Kevon Looney now.

The Warriors lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals in six games. It was the first time Golden State didn’t get to the NBA Finals while playing in the playoffs in the Steve Kerr era, which began in 2014-15.
Green signed a four-year, $100 million contract with the Warriors in the offseason. The four-time champion averaged 8.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.8 assists last season in 73 games while shooting 52.7% from the field, 30.5% from beyond the arc and 71.3% from the free-throw line.
The 33-year-old Green has career NBA averages of 8.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.6 assists with the Warriors, who traded Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards for Paul. Green punched Poole in the face before the start of the 2022-23 season.
Green told Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN in September that he doesn’t see why the Warriors can’t win two more championships.
“I don’t like to necessarily put a number on things,” Green said. “But I don’t see why we can’t get two more championships. Why not?”

The Warriors’ second game of the season is on October 27 versus the Sacramento Kings. It will be interesting to see if Green is able to play in that contest.
