Tip-off for the 2023-24 NBA season is right around the corner, and sportsbooks around the nation are taking their final wagers. There are more than a handful of lines and odds available at BetOnline regarding the upcoming campaign, and you can bet on things like player performance or which team will be the first to get punished for resting players.
One of the more popular bets on the board every year is the future listing for which player will win the NBA MVP award. This year, the list is headed by Nikola Jokić, who some would argue should be going for his 4th straight most valuable trophy. The Nuggets center is listed at +450, a solid margin better than the next lowest designation, which is Luka Dončić at +600.

But which players that are further down the board hold the best value as underdogs or long shots? Here are three of the best value bets for who will win MVP:
Steph Curry (+1600)
The Warriors can sense that their championship window is closing, and there are questions about their future after this season and beyond. Their moves in the off-season suggest that they are all in on winning now, and if last season’s playoff performance is any indication, Steph Curry still has the juice to be the best player on what could be the best team in the West. He averaged over 30 points in 13 postseason games in 2022-23, including a 50 point explosion in Game 7 of Round 1 to eliminate the feisty Sacramento Kings.
He would need to have one of the better seasons of his career in order to be considered for the MVP award, but it isn’t at all out of the realm of possibility for him to be considered.
LeBron James (+2200)
Like the Warriors, the Lakers have a chance to be one of the teams at the top of the Western Conference at the end of the season. MVP voters like to select players from winning teams, so guys like Anthony Davis and LeBron James should garner some attention based on their performances. But could a player in his 21st season actually win the most prestigious personal award in the game?
James has actually seen an increase in his numbers over the past two seasons, as he has averaged 29.6 points, the highest mark of his career since the final year of his first Cleveland stint (2009-10). If James can somehow keep his body healthy and productive for most of the season, there is a chance that he can average 30 points on a top tier team, which would put him into serious MVP talks.
De’Aaron Fox (+3300)
A player for the Sacramento Kings winning the NBA MVP award? That notion isn’t as far-fetched in 2023-24 as it has been in years past. The Kings have two players in the top-20 when it comes to the shortest odds in Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox, the latter of whom caught plenty of eyes with his postseason performances last year.
The Kings aren’t one of the favorites to come out of the West, but they aren’t the longest of long shots, either. They finished in 3rd place in the conference last year and were a Curry Game 7 50-burger away from winning and advancing to the second round, and there is reason to believe that they could compete again this coming year. Fox would have to up his production, but he got up to 25 points and 6 assists last season. His +3300 designation holds solid value to take a flyer on.
