The pictures and videos of the accident have been shared by Swati Jha on her X-profile (formerly Twitter). The accident occurred on the 14th of October in Greater Noida. According to the post, the Tata Punch and the truck collided with each other, resulting in minor damage to both vehicles. The post does not exactly explain how the accident happened. From the pictures, it appears that the Punch crashed into the Tata Ace, causing the truck to lose control and tip over. The Tata Punch seems damaged at the front. The post mentions that this was a minor accident, and it’s likely that the occupants of both the Punch and the mini-truck escaped with minor injuries.

The video of the Tata Punch that has surfaced online shows the front bumper, bonnet, and headlight damaged. It seems that the airbags in this SUV deployed upon impact. The Tata Punch is the most affordable SUV in Tata’s lineup. The Punch micro SUV was launched in the market a couple of years ago and is based on Tata’s HBX concept showcased in 2020. Shortly after the launch, it became a hit among customers in India. The Tata Punch currently competes with the Hyundai Exter and Maruti Ignis in the segment.
Just like many other Tata cars, the Punch also achieved 5-star ratings in the Global NCAP crash test. The Tata Punch received a score of 16.45 points out of 17 for adult occupant safety. The SUV is available with a petrol engine only, using a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated, 3-cylinder engine that generates 86 Bhp and 113 Nm of torque. This engine is available with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox. Returning to the accident, it is not yet clear which vehicle caused it. It does not appear to be a high-speed crash; however, we are yet to know whether the drivers were driving recklessly or not.
We assume that reckless driving caused the crash in this case. When driving on Indian roads, one must be extremely cautious. We have several risk factors that lead to accidents on our roads. While we have world-class highways and expressways, people still lack the basic sense of driving. It is not too difficult to find a person driving on the wrong side of the road in our country. In addition to wrong-way driving, we also face issues like jaywalkers, cattle, and even stray dogs. Many expressways do not allow slow-moving vehicles; however, people still manage to sneak in their bikes and other slow-moving vehicles on such roads. This also becomes a cause of accidents at times.
