Although the creators of The Conners did flirt with the idea of replacing Roseanne’s titular figure with another character from the sitcom, the spinoff’s pilot episode admitted that this was a terrible idea. The Conners has had a genesis that is unique in the annals of TV history. Most sitcom spinoffs, from That ‘90s Show to Young Sheldon, pick up the story of their predecessor a generation later or flashback in time to provide a prequel for the original show. However, The Conners continued the story of Roseanne’s season 10 revival directly, with the spinoff starting days after the original series ended.
