Excitement is building for the upcoming Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, as the schedule for the men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball competitions has been unveiled. The tournament will feature a total of 42 games played over eight action-packed days, from November 18 to November 25, 2023.
What’s at stake in this tournament goes far beyond regional pride. The victorious teams in both the men’s and women’s competitions will secure their tickets to the prestigious Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. However, the road to Paris is not limited to first place alone. For the women’s competition, the second-place team will earn a place in the IWBF Women’s Repechage Tournament in Osaka, Japan, ensuring an additional opportunity to qualify for the Paralympics. In the men’s competition, the second and third-place teams will gain entry to the IWBF Men’s Repechage Tournament in Antibes, France, where they’ll have a chance to claim a spot in the Paralympics.
As the defending champions from the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games, the USA enters the men’s competition with a target on their backs. Meanwhile, Canada looks to maintain their winning streak in the women’s division.
The women’s competition will see Group A featuring Brazil, Canada, El Salvador, and Colombia. In Group B, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, and the United States of America will vie for supremacy.
In the men’s division, Group A consists of Argentina, Canada, Chile, and Venezuela, promising intense competition. Group B includes Brazil, Colombia, Puerto Rico, and the United States of America.
These matchups are expected to deliver thrilling wheelchair basketball action, showcasing the immense talent and dedication of the athletes participating. With Paralympic qualification on the line, the Santiago Parapan American Games will be a showcase of top-tier talent, determination, and sportsmanship. Wheelchair basketball fans from around the world can mark their calendars for this exciting event, as the road to the Paris 2024 Paralympics runs through Santiago, Chile.
