This article contains spoilers for episode 11 of Survivor 45, which aired on Dec. 6 on CBS and Paramount Plus.
Breakups are never easier and Survivor 45’s dominant alliance is no more. But, after the dust settled at episode 11’s Tribal Council, every member of the ill-fated Reba 4 remained standing while a fan favorite’s torch was snuffed.
We got two days of play during “This Game Rips Your Heart Out,” and it featured the fastest-paced strategy sessions all season. Reba 4’s Austin Li Coon, Drew Basile, Dee Valladares, and Julie Alley took the majority when the remaining castaways were whittled down to seven after Bruce Perreault’s ousting last week.
But, even though the tide turned against Julie with Austin and Drew aiming their guns at her, it was Lulu’s Emily Flippen who joined the Jury as its fifth member.
So, how did the 28-year-old financial analyst’s campaign for Survivor’s seven-figure payday end? Let’s take a look at days 20 and 21 of season 45!
Emily’s threat level hit new heights after she admitted to leading Bruce astray

Episode 11 began as Survivor 45 always does with the cast debriefing after Tribal Council. Austin, Drew, Dee, Julie, Emily, Katurah Topps, and Jake O’Kane celebrated Bruce’s demise — the majority’s desired outcome for days. He was taken out unanimously and with a Hidden Immunity Idol in his sock.
Well, Julie was confused as to why Bruce wrote her name down.
If you remember, Emily secretly hatched a plan to make Bruce feel comfortable with not playing his Idol. She told him that Julie needed to go and that the two of them, along with Katurah and Jake, had to come together to eliminate her.
Bruce felt very confident in Emily’s words. Wanting to keep his Idol for another day, he wrote Julie’s name down and rolled the figurative dice. Unfortunately for him, it was all a ruse by Emily who wanted to bolster her resume while keeping Jake in the game.
Emily elected to tell everybody back at camp — including Julie — about her diabolical move. And naturally, Julie became very wary of Emily, which would become very relevant later in the episode.
The Reba 4 then celebrated that they were in the majority, and they once again solidified their final-four pact.
The next morning, a boat pulled up to Dakuwaqa’s beach, and with it came a message. The castaways had to pick one player to go on a “Journey,” and after drawing rocks, Emily left on the boat. More talking ensued, with Emily being the main focal point. In a confessional, Emily said she was aware of her threat level, and then the edit cut to Julie and Katurah making a deal to vote her out next.
When Emily reached the shore, she walked down the beach until she came across a puzzle and a decision to make. If she attempted the savvy task and prevailed, she’d receive safety for the next Tribal Council. But, if she failed to solve it within the allotted time, she’d lose her vote. Knowing that having a vote at the final seven was paramount, Emily didn’t risk her parchment. So, she headed back to the boat.
Drew mounted an offense against Julie, and Austin wrestled with his emotions
Earlier in the episode, Dee and Julie theorized that Drew could be a crack in the Reba 4 that split up the group, which had been together since the start of Survivor 45. And they were right.
Drew approached Katurah and Jake, the last two original Belo tribemates, about taking out Julie, someone they all agreed to be a shoo-in to win the grand prize should she make it to the final Tribal Council.
Katurah and Jake, who professed their loyalty to each other earlier in the episode, agreed that it was time to serve “Mama J” her walking papers.
But, there was a problem. And his name was Austin.
Austin had forked over one of his Hidden Immunity Idols to Julie a few days earlier, and it was now hers. Fearing Julie would play the Idol if she caught wind of their plan, the duo knew they couldn’t tell Dee. But, being in a budding showmance, Austin was reluctant to blindside Dee.
After Emily returned from her Journey, Drew informed her that she was at the top of Julie’s hit list, which further cemented another number in the anti-Julie force.
Dee told Julie about the betrayal, and Emily was ousted instead
The seven hopefuls then battled in an Immunity Challenge that had the players maneuvering through obstacles while attached to a rope, and it ended with them solving a word puzzle. Drew earned his first individual Immunity Challenge win, and with the triumph, he enjoyed a hamburger and hotdog barbeque back at camp. Host Jeff Probst allowed Drew to choose two players to join him, and Drew picked Jake and Austin.
So, while the women hung out in the ocean and settled on Jake’s name as the next boot — something they were all lying about — the men gorged on much-needed calories before agreeing to write Julie’s swan song.
The stars seemed aligned for the 49-year-old’s sendoff.
But, feeling terrible about keeping the secret from Dee, Austin spilled the beans to her, which was the catalyst for Emily’s final night as a contestant. Dee told Julie about the plan and that she needed to play her Idol at Tribal Council. Then, chaos ensued.
Armed with the knowledge of the impending betrayal, she pitched to Jake and Katurah that it was Austin’s time to go. The information immediately got back to the other four, and Austin told Drew that he had spoken to Dee about the blindside. But, Austin remained adamant that Dee wouldn’t say anything to Julie.
Still, he knew that there was a possibility Julie would write his name down. And if everybody piled their votes onto her and she used her Idol, her sole vote would be enough for him to sail off to Ponderosa.
Before Tribal Council, Dee asked Julie not to vote for Austin. But, in a confessional, Julie toyed with the idea knowing that he and Dee were very close.
However, she ended up targeting Emily instead. The six other contestants, including Dee, voted for Julie. But, she pulled out her Idol and nullified the votes. Austin chose to keep his Idol holstered, which ended up being a gutsy and correct play.
The final piece of parchment Jeff pulled out of the voting urn had Emily’s name written on it, and her underdog story finally came to a close.
With only six players left and Reba 4 in ruins, who knows what will happen in episode 12? Jake and Katurah are now in a much better position than they were a few days ago, and it seems like the Reba 4 war will hit a boiling point next Wednesday. Can’t wait!
