Volkswagen has just launched the Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition at Rs. 16.3 lakh, and it’s got some interesting updates. But here’s the thing – it’s not exactly an off-road beast. This edition, based on the GT trim, primarily focuses on visual enhancements. The Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition boasts newly designed 17-inch black alloy wheels, a Trail badge on the boot lid, contrast red brake calipers, and new decals on the fenders and pillars. It also gets a functional roof rail, enhancing its overall style.
Inside the cabin, there’s a new black leatherette seat upholstery with red stitching and ‘Trail’ embossment. The Trail Edition of the Taigun comes in three colors: Candy White, Deep Black Pearl, and Carbon Steel Grey. While it offers these visual enhancements, it retains the same mechanical features as the standard GT variant. It’s powered by a 1.5L four-cylinder TSI turbo petrol engine that produces 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. You can choose between a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Volkswagen had previously introduced the Taigun Sport Edition in April 2023, and it is expected to hit showrooms soon. The midsize SUV segment in India is heating up, with new updates and launches from various automakers. For instance, the Kia Seltos received a facelift, and the Tata Harrier and Safari duo recently got significant updates.
This is part of Volkswagen’s strategy to attract buyers during the festive season. The Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition’s 16.3 lakh rupee price makes it identical in cost to the mid-spec Taigun GT trim. It’s worth noting that this edition falls under the limited-run category, so it may not be available for long.
In terms of competition, the Taigun continues to compete with popular models like the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, and Honda Elevate in the competitive midsize SUV segment. So, if you’re looking for a stylish SUV with some visual flair, the Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition might just catch your eye. It’s not meant for off-road adventures, but it certainly knows how to make a statement on the road.
Volkswagen also sells the Taigun with a smaller, 3 cylinder turbo petrol engine. Displacing 999cc, the smaller motor makes a healthy 120 PS of peak power and 175 Nm of peak torque thanks to its turbocharger. The smaller motor is offered with 6 speed manual and torque converter automatic gearbox options. Skoda sells a badge-engineered version of the Taigun in India. It’s called the Kushaq and is mechanically identical to the Taigun.
