The White Motor Company custom-built more than 500 of these Model-706 tourist buses for national-park duty in 1936-39. Glacier’s entire fleet was sidelined by widespread chassis cracking in 1999—after averaging 600,000 miles—that threatened its existence. Ford Motor Company rode to the rescue with a $6.5-million, mass “restification” that returned the buses to Montana two years later. Beneath each restored body, a stretched (176-inch-wheelbase) van frame carries a 5.4L powertrain, fueled by propane.
