The first Ghostbusters movie kicked off a cultural phenomenon in 1984, and the franchise is alive and well in the present day. The multi-billion dollar multimedia franchise, which was created by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, includes four movies (with more on the way) and two animated television shows, all of which can be viewed in two different orders — by release date or chronologically. However, not all the films and series need to be watched to understand what happens in the other movies and shows. Although a handful of important events from certain films and series are referenced in other projects, some of them can stand alone.
