Polestar has made a series of announcements today at their first-ever Polestar Day held in Los Angeles, CA.
Polestar Day marked the first time Polestar’s full range of future models has been exhibited together, including the Polestar 3, Polestar 4, Polestar 5, Polestar Precept, Polestar Electric Roadster Concept, and the Polestar Synergy.
Notably, this is the first time the production version of the Polestar 5 has been seen, looking very much like the Polestar Precept concept on which its design is based. The Polestar 5 features the brand’s now signature split headlights, a grille-less front end, a sleek sloping roofline, and no rear window like the Polestar 4. Around back, a dramatically sharp lightbar gives the Polestar 5 an unmistakable tail. The Polestar 5 will generate 872 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque from two electric motors and be based on an 800-volt electric architecture. The Polestar 5 is expected to launch in 2025 and will compete directly with the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air full-size luxury sedan EVs.
Polestar also announced it would be developing extremely fast charging batteries with StoreDot that will be able to add 100 miles of range in just 5 minutes with no battery degradation. These new batteries will be tested in a Polestar 5 prototype.
Other Polestar Day announcements included a vehicle-to-grid pilot program called Virtual Power Plant that is being developed with the Polestar 3, the Mobileye and Luminar-developed “Mobileye Chauffer” autonomous driving system for the Polestar 4, and South Korean manufacturing for the Polestar 4 starting in 2025.
Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said the inaugural Polestar Day “provides substantial insight into our products and the innovations we are working on together with global leaders in various fields to bring the best electric performance cars to market. We are progressing from having one car on the roads – Polestar 2 – to having three, with the ongoing launches of our two SUVs, Polestar 3 and Polestar 4. The coming months will be some of the most exciting our young company has ever seen.”
