HARTFORD – UConn freshman Stephon Castle will not play in the Huskies’ game against Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday night due to an undisclosed injury, according to a team release about an hour before the game.
Castle was out on the court rebounding for his teammates as they warmed up prior to the game with a wrap on his right shin.
The team will provide an update to his status after the game.
The only freshman in UConn’s starting lineup, Castle earned the first Big East Freshman of the Week recognition of the season on Monday. Through two games, the 6-foot-6 guard from Covington, Georgia, has averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 66.7% from the field and 80% from the free throw line.
A former McDonald’s High School All-American and a projected lottery pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Castle was also selected as the Big East preseason Freshman of the Year.
