A new NBA trade proposal would send Donovan Mitchell from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the New York Knicks.
Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Cavaliers and Knicks:
The Cleveland Cavaliers trade Donovan Mitchell to the New York Knicks for RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, Miles McBride, a 2024 first-round pick (top-12 protected, via WAS), a 2027 first-round pick, a 2029 first-round pick and a 2028 first-round pick swap
The Knicks tried to trade for Mitchell last offseason, but the All-Star guard got traded by the Utah Jazz to the Cavaliers instead. Mitchell, who was born and raised in New York, thought he would traded to the Knicks, and according to Howard Beck of The Ringer, Mitchell “still wants to play” for the Knicks.
In November 2020, Mitchell signed a five-year, $163 million extension with the Jazz. He’s making $32.6 million this season and will make $34.8 million in 2024-25.

Mitchell has a player option worth $37 million for the 2025-26 season. He has already stated that he won’t sign an extension with the Cavaliers this year.
Mitchell’s former teammate on the Jazz thinks Mitchell will play for the Knicks in the future. Orlando Magic swingman Joe Ingles joined DJ and PK on 97.5 The KSL Sports Zone and predicted that Mitchell would be a member of the Knicks.
“This is like non-bias, no outside info, I think he’ll play for New York one day, whether that’s sooner or later,” Ingles said. “I think it would be great for New York and I think it would be great for him. Whether or not that actually happens we’ll wait and see.”

The Knicks are monitoring Mitchell as a trade target, according to Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News. Mitchell doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract, so he can’t force his way to New York.
