Reckless riding by two-wheeler riders is a major issue in India, especially with social media in our lives. Many of these riders often attempt dangerous stunts or ride dangerously solely to create viral videos. Online, numerous such videos have been seen, and unfortunately, some of these stunts end disastrously. There have been cases where young riders attempting stunts on public roads have ended up in accidents, leading to loss of life. In a recent incident, Tamil Nadu police fined a youth riding a bike recklessly with a modified helmet.

Young riders who are active on social media frequently post videos of themselves riding in cities or on open highways. Their primary motive in sharing these videos is to showcase their speed or riding skill. Some even modify their bikes with aftermarket exhausts to elicit reactions from other road users. However, a young biker from Tamil Nadu chose a different approach. Instead of modifying the bike, he modified his helmet.
He covered his helmet with fur-like material and added ears similar to those of rabbits. This trend has recently gained popularity, with many other riders using similar helmet covers. However, this peculiar-looking helmet drew the attention of law enforcement, and the Courtallam police received a complaint about a biker riding recklessly while wearing this unusual helmet.

The rider had posted a video of himself riding in this manner on social media, which quickly went viral. The police received public complaints about the reckless riding and the strange helmet shown in the video. The public demanded action against the rider for endangering not only his own life but also the lives of other innocent road users. The modified helmet was also reported as highly distracting to other road users.
Upon receiving the complaint, a senior police official instructed the Courtallam police to take action. After analyzing several CCTV footages, they identified the rider as S Sujith from Malayan Street in Tenkashi. Subsequently, the offender was issued a fine of Rs 10,000 for reckless riding and for using a modified helmet. Additionally, the police seized his bike.
This incident is not an isolated one. In the past, there have been instances where individuals performed stunts like wheelies and stoppies on public roads. It’s not limited to bikes; social media influencers have posted videos while sitting on the roof or bonnet of moving cars. In all these cases, law enforcement took action against the offenders, issuing heavy fines. In this case, the rider was not only riding the bike in a careless manner. He was also creating a confusion or distraction among road users with his modified helmet. There are many videos of bikers wearing such helmets online. Most of them do it for the sake of publicity. As per the reports, such helmets distract other road users and it would lead to accidents on the road. It’s crucial to note that public roads are meant for everyone’s use and safety, not for performing stunts. Those interested in such activities should seek private tracks or properties where they won’t pose a threat to the general public.
