By volunteering after Maria for the festival committee, Runa hopes to kickstart Operation Befriend Maria. Ryuuto joins in, as after all he did tell Runa he’d help her, and then he does a solid for Isshi by having him volunteer along with Akari.
Akari and Isshi end up paired up together, leaving Ryuuto with the twin sisters to come up with a pamphlet design. The only problem is Runa and Maria have opposite ideas for the design … and Ryuuto kinda prefers Maria’s more toned-down idea.
Ryuuto comes to his new cram school senpai Sekiya with his conundrum, and learns that before he was a “ronin”, Sekiya was a bit of a dorky overachiever. It was his girlfriend who suggested he change his look, but that made him popular with the ladies and led to a bad breakup.
Speaking of bad, that’s what the vibes remain during the pamphlet team’s next meeting, with Runa and Maria unable to see eye to eye. Then Ryuuto encounters Maria at the train station after cram school, and learns that she decided to transfer first and foremost because she thought it would make Runa happy.
Runa loves surprises normally, but Maria didn’t get the reaction she hoped for, leading to her lashing out by spreading nasty rumors. She regrets what she did, but now feels like she’s finally starting to get back to her normal self.
Ryuuto takes away from this encounter that Maria actually cares for Runa a lot, and that there’s still hope they can come around to one another. He also drops a book that shows he goes to the same cram school as Maria, and she reveals she knew all along. She later calls him a dummy for hiding rather than trusting her to keep her distance.
Sports Day arrives, and Ryuuto gets to cheer Runa on, which leads to her victory. He also ends up her item in the scavenger race, as she had to find someone she liked.
Things are going swell for Ryuuto and Runa, while Maria invited their mom to watch her perform a routine in the cheer squad with Akari. When Akari admits she invited her mom and admits it’s cringe, Akari says it isn’t; she loves her mom and wants her to watch her; nothing wrong with that! Akari, like Nicole, is so nice!
Unfortunately, the good vibes once again sour when Maria sees Runa talking and laughing with their mom, whom she now considers her mom. In any case, she invited her. Now that Runa is with her, she runs off rather than join the cheer team.
Runa and Ryuuto split up to look for her, but Ryuuto ends up finding her on the roof. There, Maria impresses upon him the difficult spot she’s in, as her and Runa’s mom assume they get along, but due to what she did to Runa, she can’t reveal they’re sisters to their classmates.
Furthermore, Maria admits she still likes Ryuuto, and begs him to stop doing things to make her like him more. Just liking him is enough for her; it has nothing to do with him. Runa overhears most if not all of this, and walks away somberly.
The episode ends with the worst vibes yet, with everyone telling Ryuuto he must choose between his girlfriend’s or her sister’s design. When he tries to BS an argument for Runa’s, she flatly tells him not to lie for her sake, so he picks Maria’s. What had been clear blue sunny skies for Runa and Ryuuto are suddenly cloudy, rainy, and as monochrome as Maria’s pamphlet. Things are not looking good!
