Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will take a risk that was previously avoided by Idris Elba's Knuckles. The live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie series is set for its third installment in December, yet it will take a gamble the movie franchise hasn't done previously. The first two films managed to make a relatively strong profit, but this time around there is even more pressure. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 must beat Sonic 2's box office as 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie proved how well this kind of project can perform. Both are very recognizable video game franchises and Mario's film crossing $1 billion ups the stakes for Sonic's next adventure.
