When Tesla released the Cybertruck last week, in a bit of showmanship, they demonstrated it outperforming a Porsche 911 in a drag race while towing another 911 behind it. It was certainly an impressive feat, but some people still weren’t convinced by its performance.
Here to put those doubts to rest is Mat Watson of Carwow, who had the opportunity to pit the Cybertruck against the current acceleration champion of electric pickup trucks: the GMC Hummer EV. Looking at the specs, the Tesla boasts 845 hp (857 PS / 630 kW) and 686 lb-ft (930 Nm) of torque in its tri-motor “Cyberbeast” configuration, while the GMC packs a punch with 1,000 hp (1,014 PS / 746 kW) and 1,095 lb-ft (1,485 Nm) of torque.
Based solely on power figures, the Hummer might appear to have the upper hand, but the real-world races tell a different tale.

While the Cybertruck failed to meet the estimated price and range targets set by Tesla back in 2019, its performance certainly hasn’t fallen short of original projections. Tesla claims a 2.6-second 0-60 mph (97 km/h) time for the tri-motor version of the truck, which sure seems to be true considering how easily it dispatched the Hummer EV with its 3.0-second time.
Over the quarter mile, the Cybertruck left the Hummer in the dust, taking an early lead and finishing multiple car lengths (or should we say truck lengths) ahead. Similar results ensued for the second and third drag races, as well as the roll races.

You may be wondering how the Cybertruck was able to best the Hummer EV so easily despite being down 155 hp (157 PS / 116 kW) and 409 lb-ft (555 Nm), and the answer lies in the two vehicles’ weight. While the Cybertruck tips the scales at a hefty 6,843 lb (3,104 kg), the Hummer weighs a gargantuan 9,063 lb (4,111 kg).
