We have come across several videos on the internet that demonstrate why one must be careful while riding on Indian roads. Several factors, such as rash drivers/riders, people performing stunts on bikes and cars, stray animals, cattle, and even jaywalkers, contribute to inconveniences for road users and often result in accidents. This isn’t limited to highways or city roads alone. Here, we have a video from Hyderabad that illustrates why it’s crucial to be cautious and maintain a slow speed while riding through minor or pocket roads.
The video has been shared by the Cyberabad Traffic Police on their YouTube channel. It depicts a non-fatal accident that occurred somewhere within the limits of RC Puram. The footage was recorded by a CCTV camera installed on a pole, facing a junction on a minor road within a residential area.
This road is typically used by people residing in the area, connecting the region to city roads and highways. The road appears cemented, with square patterns designed to prevent cracks from spreading to other sections. As mentioned earlier, the camera was facing a junction. A few seconds into the video, a horn can be heard, though no bike or any other vehicle is visible on the screen yet.
Suddenly, a Honda Activa appears from the bottom right side of the screen, while simultaneously, a Hero Splendor bike approaches the junction from the right side. Both the Activa rider and the Hero Splendor rider were traveling at a high speed, and for some reason, they did not slow down at the junction.

The Hero Splendor collided with the Honda Activa, causing both riders to be immediately thrown off their vehicles. The bike and the scooter fell on the other side of the junction. It appears that the front tire of the bike had hit the leg of the scooter rider. The scooter rider can be seen lying on the ground next to the scooter and bike. Though not unconscious, they are definitely in pain. The bike rider was also thrown away from the bike and landed on the road away from the bike.
A few seconds after the fall, he can be seen approaching the bike. Both riders sustained injuries in the accident, but the scooter rider seems more injured than the biker. The video serves as a clear example of why it’s crucial to always ride or drive slowly on minor or pocket roads. These roads are often narrow, and vehicles can appear suddenly. Always slow down at junctions, whether minor or main roads. By slowing down, you can have a clear view of the traffic approaching the junction and proceed after the vehicles have passed. Ideally, one must stop, look, and then proceed at junctions to avoid such accidents. In this case, both riders were extremely lucky not to have hit their heads on the road. If that had happened, they would have been in serious trouble as they were both not wearing helmets. Riding helmets are absolutely must for riders as well as pillion on the two-wheeler for safety.
