The German automotive giant Volkswagen’s Indian subsidiary, VW India, has recently shed some light on its upcoming plans for the years 2024 and 2025. The company has provided a detailed plan that talks about the cars that will be coming in the future. Additionally, it has also provided information on a lot of speculations of popular cars that were believed to be making a comeback in the county. A spokesperson from VW has shared some good news as well as some bad news.
Volkswagen to launch ID4 next year

First and foremost, talking about which new car Volkswagen will be launching in India, it has been stated that VW will introduce its first electric offering in India in 2024. The ID4 EV compact SUV, which has already been launched in the international markets, will be launched in the Indian market next year. This will be the brand’s first fully electric car in India and will most likely be priced in the range of Rs 30-35 lakh. Once launched, it will most likely go against the likes of the Harrier EV, Creta EV, and the Maruti Suzuki eVX.
Virtus and Taigun facelifts in 2025

It has also been stated that while the focus is being shifted towards electric mobility, Volkswagen will continue to offer Virtus and Taigun in the country. These two siblings, based on the MQB A0 IN platform, will get more special editions, updates, and improvements in the coming year. So far, there are no plans for the facelifts of these siblings planned; however, they could get a refresh in 2025.
No Volkswagen Polo GTI and Golf GTI for India

Now coming to the sad part, the company spokesperson has stated that the new generation of the Polo GTI, which has been unveiled internationally, has been ruled out of the Indian market. At the moment, no new Polo models are in the pipeline from the brand. Similarly, the highly anticipated arrival of the Golf GTI has been put on hold due to anticipated high pricing. The company has emphasized that it would not be practical to import this hot hatchback because of the extensive import duties.

Bigger SUVs for India

Volkswagen is taking note of the love of SUVs that Indian buyers possess, and it has been reported that the company is contemplating the launch of the Tayron, the 7-seater SUV in India. It has been reported that the company could be launching this SUV in the full-size SUV segment to take on the mighty Toyota Fortuner, which currently enjoys a monopoly in the Indian market. If launched, the Tyron will cater to the demand for larger, family-oriented vehicles in the Rs 40-50 lakh price range. Currently, Volkswagen subsidiary Skoda sells the seven-seater Kodiaq in India.
The iconic Touareg could make a comeback

Apart from the Tyron, the company is also debating on bringing back its most expensive and premium SUV, the current generation Touareg, in India. As per the reports, while discussions are ongoing, the brand remains cautious about pricing, acknowledging they need to strike a balance between premium offerings and market sensibilities. It has been stated that if the plans do materialize, the Touareg could be seen on the Indian roads around 2025.
No Volkswagen T-Roc facelift for India

The brand brought the mid-size T-Roc SUV to India via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route, and it was sold out quickly. However, it has now been stated that the new facelifted iteration of this Volkswagen compact SUV will not be introduced in India.
Volkswagen Tiguan facelift

Lastly, the most expensive SUV sold by the brand in India – the Tiguan – is also set to receive a facelift. However, the sad part is that it will also not be launched until 2025. Currently, the company sells the Tiguan in the country with a single variant on offer priced at Rs 35.16 lakh. It gets a 2-litre four-cylinder engine that makes around 187 bhp and 320 Nm of torque.
