Wherever great basketball is being played these days, it seems like UConn is there.
On Wednesday night, NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo set a Milwaukee Bucks franchise record with a ridiculous 64 points on 20 of 28 shooting against the Indiana Pacers, and he did it while wearing a pair of special-edition UConn sneakers.

The shoes– the Zoom Freak 5 player exclusive– are in UConn colors and feature the Husky logo on the tongue. So why was Giannis, who grew up in Greece and didn’t play college basketball, wearing them?
Well, Nike makes player exclusive sneakers for schools like UConn, Kentucky, Duke and others, and NBA players will occasionally wear them, whether they went to school there or not. Giannis wore a pair of Kentucky-themed kicks earlier this month. Kevin Durant, who went to Texas, rocked a pair of UConn player edition sneakers in a game last season.
The ‘player exclusive’ moniker means that they aren’t available for sale, so unfortunately for fans, they won’t have a chance to rock the same version of Husky-themed shoes that Giannis put up 64 in. His performance marked not only the highest scoring game by a Bucks player, but the 26th-highest total in NBA history.
In addition to Giannis’ sneakers being available as player exclusives, Nike released a pair of UConn-themed LeBron 20s back in April.
