Hyundai is gearing up to make a significant splash in the mass-market electric vehicle (EV) segment in India with the introduction of the Creta EV by 2025. The Korean automaker, known for its strides in the premium EV space with models like the Kona and Ioniq 5, is expanding its electric portfolio to cater to a broader audience. The Creta is expected to be priced under Rs. 20 lakh for the base trim, making it sit in between the likes of the Tata Nexon EV and the MG eZS.
Scheduled to debut in the second half of 2024 globally, the Hyundai Creta EV will mark the brand’s entry into the mainstream EV market in India. The vehicle, built on the foundation of the Creta facelift set to be unveiled on January 16, 2023, promises to deliver both style and sustainability.
Powering the Creta EV will be a 45kWh battery pack, supplied by LG Chem, a renowned global provider of lithium-ion battery packs. This battery technology will serve as the energy backbone for the upcoming EV, aligning with Hyundai’s commitment to cutting-edge electric propulsion.
In terms of battery capacity, the Creta EV’s 45kWh offering positions it just below the MG ZS EV, which boasts a 50.3kWh battery. Additionally, it trails behind the anticipated Maruti eVX, expected to offer two battery variants – a base 48kWh version and a top-tier 60kWh variant. Nevertheless, it surpasses the Nexon EV’s 40.5kWh battery, showcasing Hyundai’s dedication to balancing range and efficiency.
The electric motor propelling the Creta EV will be a shared component with the latest-generation, entry-level Kona EV available in international markets. This electric motor, situated on the front axle, will generate approximately 138hp of power and a robust 255Nm of torque, ensuring a spirited and efficient driving experience.
The Creta EV is strategically positioned to compete directly with rivals such as the MG ZS EV and Maruti eVX in the Indian market. While the MG ZS EV boasts a larger battery, and the Maruti eVX is a dedicated EV model, the Hyundai Creta EV aims to strike a balance between performance, range, and affordability. Enthusiasts and potential buyers can anticipate the global unveiling of the Hyundai Creta EV in the latter part of 2024, with the official price announcement anticipated in early 2025. This move signifies Hyundai’s commitment to expanding its EV offerings and capturing a wider audience in the rapidly evolving Indian automotive landscape. The Creta EV is poised to make a strong impact, aligning with Hyundai’s reputation for innovation and forward-thinking mobility solutions.
