When Tesla revealed the production version of the Cybertruck a few weeks ago, it became evident that the new EV would cost more than initially advertised. And now, we’re learning that it will also be pretty expensive to maintain.
Price details for various components have allegedly been released online and they show that, in order to provide a tough truck with distinctive aesthetics, Tesla has also had to incorporate some costly components. While they are not outrageously high, the prices might cause you to flinch if you’re the one actually footing the bill.
For instance, as revealed by screenshots shared by a user on Cybertruckowenrsclub (since Tesla’s website’s parts catalog doesn’t currently display prices), the cost of replacing a windshield wiper blade and arm for the Cybertruck is a hefty $165. In contrast, the Ford parts catalog lists an F-150 wiper blade at a far more reasonable $24 and the arm at $18. Of course, there are two components for the Ford, as opposed to just one for the Cybertruck, but even when combined, they still come in at a considerably lower price than the Cybertruck’s single, massive part.

The purportedly official pricing details also include the windshield glass, which is listed at an even heftier $1,900 for the Cybertruck. For a Ford F-150, the glass can cost as little as $380, albeit that’s without any embedded tech, like a rain sensor. In addition, the Tesla part is made of gorilla glass that the company claims will be resistant to chips and cracks, which may reduce the frequency of replacements.
The front steering actuator will be a pretty big concern if it breaks, as the unit costs $3,300. By comparison, the entire rack and pinion assembly in a Ford F-150 Lightning is listed at $2,000. Cybertruck buyers aren’t exclusively worse off, though.
- Windshield wiper blade: $75
- Windshield wiper arm & blade: $165
- Windshield glass: $1900
- Front steering actuator: $3300
- Shatterproof side windows: $200-$260
- Powered frunk & fascia: $1910 + $935
- Front fenders: $550/each
- 35″ All-Terrain A/T tire (Goodyear Wrangler Territory RT (285/65R20): $470/each
For instance, the side glass for Tesla’s new truck will apparently cost between $200 and $260. On an F-150 Lightning, it can cost as much as $395. In addition, the left fender costs $550, which is less than the front panel on an F-150, and owners likely won’t have to pay to paint the part before it’s affixed to the vehicle.
While the prices listed above aren’t necessarily alarming, they do point to a vehicle that will be comparatively expensive to maintain. It seems unlikely that will be a deterrent to Tesla buyers, since they already cost a lot to repair, but may be worth considering if you’re looking into one of the cheaper models.
