No Springs Required. These are the magic words for so many folks interested in upgrading the camshaft in their LS engine. Cams aren’t cheap, and either are springs, plus most folks don’t have the confidence and tools required to do a spring swap at home. I mean, it isn’t hard and the tools are readily available, but it intimidates a lot of folks. Plus, it just isn’t required with so many of the modern cam grinds you would want to use in your upgraded 4.8, 5.3, or 6.0 LS engine. So in this test you are going to see Richard put a Truck Norris NSR cam in a 4.8 and then see if it will spin to 7,000 rpm without any issues. And keep in mind that a Truck Norris cam in a 4.8 is considerably more aggressive than that same cam in a 6.0. Remember, cubic inches tames a camshaft so what is big in a little engine is small in a big engine, and vice versa.
