After UConn’s stunning 75-60 loss at Seton Hall on Wednesday night, UConn Twitter (er, X posters?) came together for one big, collective “woosah.”
Deep breaths were needed after the Huskies put in by far their worst performance of the season, a shocker after a 10-1 start that had many, including former Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, calling them the best team in the nation.
UConn fan and Field of 68 founder Rob Dauster pulled out an interesting stat- one that many Huskies fans may not be aware of.
Since the 2004 title, UConn has lost their conference opener 16 times in 20 seasons.
Before last season, the last three times they reached the Final Four (and the last two times they won the national title) they lost their conference opener.
Built for March … not December.

Puneet Nanda put it in perspective.
Good morning all! Let’s start with one we can all enjoy:
UConn MBB
Since April 2004National Championship Games: 4-0
Conference Openers: 4-15— Puneet Nanda (@UConnPuneet) December 20, 2023
The account @NoEscalators chose to look at the positives.
You can be down on the team and feel crappy about the loss
OR
You can realize we will never see the black alternates again and also that this loss will keep Hurley up for a month so you can comfortably bet a literal mortgage payment on UConn when they host Hall for senior day
— No Escalators (@NoEscalators) December 21, 2023
A lot of fans seem to dislike the alternate black jerseys.
If Hurley is the guy we all think he is, tonight’s the last time we ever see the black jerseys during his tenure #UConn

Marie LeBrun decided to take that energy and turn it into action.
I am going to drive to Connecticut tomorrow, steal the black jerseys, throw them in a dumpster, and set the dumpster on fire.

Meghan Bard, also being helpful:
I’ll bring the matches

Zach the UConn Fan may have had some sort of premonition.

Uh, actually is he from the future?
I am fully preparing myself for the Kadary Richmond masterpiece that always happens agains UConn

Storrs South pointed out what may be a very important stat.
UConn is 1-0 in National Championship games when I have attended a loss in Newark the same season
— Storrs South (@UConn6thBorough) December 21, 2023
Pat LeneFan chose to do some healthy reframing.
Feel like I’m going to need to remind UConn Twitter a lot this year that this was a championship team pic.twitter.com/gjZahCZaY7

Jamar Jones had another healthy take.
Glad they played like this now then later down the Road! I would hate to see what Dan has them do next practice … this is minor we will bounce back
— Jamar Jones (@JamarVip) December 21, 2023
When you come right down to it though, it might have all just been CT Scoreboard Pod host Jared Kotler’s fault.
I have to apologize. Before big UConn games I've been eating @ChickfilA sandwiches (dates back to Iona in tourney). There have been two games I haven't been able to make it over for one – Kansas and last night. I take full accountability @dhurley15. This will not happen again.
— Jared Kotler (@JaredKotler) December 21, 2023
There you go, that’s the right attitude, @UConnPuneet.
What’s clear this morning is that last night is everyone’s fault except mine. https://t.co/uO1OOqeLuu

Another interesting stat from Fox Sports’ John Fanta that shows just how tough Big East conference play is.
Here’s a stat:
Connecticut is 27-1 in its last 28 non-conference games. All 27 wins have come by double-digits.
The Huskies are 14-10 in their last 24 games against Big East teams.

UConn next faces St. John’s at the XL Center on Saturday. Tip time is set for 8 p.m.
