You know where this is going if you’ve been following this team. The Raptors didn’t have to trade Anunoby. Even if they’re rebuilding, he’s young enough to be part of this team’s core. On the other hand, most would agree that it’s time for them to trade Pascal Siakam.

If you’re a Grizzlies fan, you haven’t been waiting out the Raptors. You’ve had your own moment to anticipate. The Grizzlies began the year with Ja Morant serving a suspension.
His pending return has been the story of the season for this fanbase. Morant is finally back. They’re clearly a more dangerous team with Morant on the floor, but there’s more to consider.

Perhaps Memphis is still adjusting to Morant’s return. This team has the talent. Once they put it together, they could be dangerous. Should they get more dangerous by landing Siakam?
Why The Memphis Grizzlies Do The Deal
This deal does create a problem for Memphis. This team is already light on shooting. Now, we’ve got them trading Kennard. Without their lone shooting specialist, the Grizzlies’ spacing will be poor.
Still, they’re adding Pascal Siakam. Perhaps this season is lost. Memphis could do this deal with the 2024-25 season in mind. If they could acquire a knockdown shooter or two this summer, they’ll be serious contenders next year with Siakam on the roster.

In the meantime, the Grizzlies still have Desmond Bane to space the floor. They may make a playoff push after landing Siakam, but either way, this deal improves their two-year outlook considerably. What does it do for the Raptors?
Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal
The Raptors need to trade Siakam. That’s overwhelmingly obvious. He’s too old to grow with this rebuilding team. Moreover, Siakam has never been a clean fit with Scottie Barnes on paper – and he’s the future of the franchise.
This feels like a solid return. The Raptors should be interested in Williams – he’s a young wing with ample potential. Meanwhile, Clarke is young enough to be part of their future as well.

Still, the Raptors are mainly interested in the draft capital they’re receiving here. They didn’t get any first-round picks for Anunoby, so that should be the focus of any Siakam trade. In the meantime, all we can do is wait.
