Volkswagen Teaser Video Confirms New EV Scout Model Will Debut This Summer

In May of 2022, Volkswagen announced its plans to revive the Scout nameplate in the form of an off-road pickup truck and SUV EV. By early-2023, VW launched a $2-billion project to build an assembly plant for the two Scout models in Blythewood, South Carolina. Initially, the automaker planned to launch the revived Scout in 2026, but a recent teaser video revealed that VW is working ahead of schedule.

The Volkswagen Group’s official teaser video confirms that the first revived Scout model will be revealed this summer, 2024. Whether the company plans to debut a concept car or the production model is unknown, and limited details were provided in the video. I suppose that’s why it’s called a “teaser.”

What we do know is both Scout models will be produced in partnership with Austria’s Magna Steyr, an automotive manufacturer that is engineering the electric truck and SUVs with an allotted €450 million ($492.7 million) from Volkswagen. According to an older statement from Scout Motors, the Scout models will ride on a bespoke EV platform focused on off-roading, which will offer “credible capability and off-road prowess.” Scout also mentioned that, once running at full capacity, the new plant will be capable of producing more than 200,000 vehicles per year.

The below 1:22-minute clip ends with the text, “REVEALING SUMMER 2024.”
