Yeah, we know you didn’t know something called a Sally Saw existed, either. Invented and manufactured by a company in Boston, this is a kind of power saw that was designed to be used by loggers and arborists. It is a gas powered saw with a really big rotating head on it. The blade is rim-driven and there is no throttle control. You start it, run the sucker at WOT, and chew on logs. Also, that spinning blade can rotate 90-degrees.
The idea here is that you would cut the tree down with the blade laying flat and then stand it up to trim the limbs and stuff off of the felled tree. You’d then set the saw down on its stand and feed said limbs and stuff through it to cut them down to a manageable size.
All of this is great on paper and apparently they sold a decent amount of these things from what we have gleaned from the internet. The downsides are the fact that it wants to kill you at all times, it is heavy as hell, and by the time you’re done you are praying for an ax in your hands again.
This is one of the neatest restorations that we have seen from the Hand Tool Rescue channel and he has some really awesome stuff under his belt. From the engine to the saw blade, he brings this thing back to all of its wild glory. Enjoy.
