The Lane Motor Museum announced that a handful of classic and collector cars are now listed for public sale. The variety of vehicles includes models from Italian, British, German, and French car manufacturers. There’s even a few race cars, a couple of six-wheel-drive car haulers, and a vintage fiberglass lawnmower body thrown into the mix. The condition of each vehicle reportedly ranges from excellent, museum quality restorations to project cars that need some work.
Why would a museum sell classic cars out of its collection? Storage limitations are the most common factor for making the difficult decision to part ways with the pieces of automotive history. It’s common for museums to evaluate their collections on a regular basis, sometimes eliminating what no longer fits into the display, or perhaps making room for something that is a better fit for the theme. The Lane Motor Museum is doing just that.
After the Museum’s Director and Curator studied the car collection closely, a discussion was had and decisions were made. The Museum’s website reads, “We would like to provide others with the opportunity to revive, restore, and enjoy these cars, rather than consigning them to decades of dark, dusty storage. Even though they may no longer be here, we will be continuing our mission of sharing these unique cars with the public.”
“We hope that making space for new acquisitions will allow us to strengthen the stories we are able to tell through our collection in the coming years.”
According to the Lane Motor Museum’s website, the following vehicles are being offered for sale:
1960 Lancia Appia
Average older restoration, runs and drives. $12,000.
1961 Lloyd LT-600
Recently restored. Near perfect condition. $50,000.
1966 Fiat 600 Multipla
72,000 kilometers (45K miles). Good condition. Drives well, stops great. Electric fuel pump installed in November 2019. Water temp gauge is missing, but all other instrumentation works as it should. $40,000.
1969 Mercedes-Benz 280S
Good condition. Head gasket replaced 2 years ago. Runs and drives well. $15,000.
1971 LeGrand Mk12 Super Vee
This was a one-off, single seat formula race car, since LeGrand did not put this car into production. Excellent condition. Runs and drives. $20,000.
1986 Alfa Romeo Spider “Graduate”
Runs and drives well. Good condition. 75,100 miles. $15,000.
1988 Citroën Tissier Car Carrier
Citroën CX-based, diesel powered, and will accommodate cars around 2CV size. Bed dimensions are 11’ 8” from the winch to the end of the beavertail, and 69” between the bed rails. Carrying capacity is about 3600 pounds. Overall length approaches 23’. Repairs made in 2021 include a replacement low-mile engine, transmission, suspension work, brakes, and electrical repairs. Chassis shows 552K kms (343K miles), but replaced engine and transmission has under 50K kms (31K miles). Runs and drives well, has some cosmetic issues. $45,000.
1994 Tatra T-815 Rollback
Six-wheel drive, 22′ x 8′ bed, 20-ton hydraulic wench. Good running condition, new batteries, 65,000km. Top speed of 50 mph. $45,000.
1999 Dallara Truck Nation IRL Car
Currently set up for road courses. Last driven on the track about 15 years ago. Oldsmobile Aurora engine and Emco gearbox. Includes starter cart. $60,000.
2019 Citroën Monoposto Race Car
A new reproduction of a 1950s DB monoposto (single-seater) race car. This one is powered by a Citroën 2CV engine and gearbox. $10,000.
Fiberglass Isetta Riding Lawnmower Body
This homebuilt fiberglass mold is shaped like a BMW Isetta microcar and designed to fit over a standard sized riding lawnmower. Comes with mounting bars and a fake Isetta engine cover. Needs paint and trim (and a donor lawnmower). $100.
