It is widely known that comedian Jerry Seinfeld is a massive Porsche fan, but who isn’t these days? So you could be forgiven for having been unaware that this 26,000-mile 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa whose auction just ended on Bring a Trailer actually belonged to the famed actor.
In fact, nowhere on the auction page was it listed that the car belonged to Seinfeld, a decision he recently implied on the Spike’s Car Radio podcast was intentional. However, he decided to divulge the secret on the show, which went live just a few hours before the sale ended.
“That is the car that I would drive to work when I was doing the series in the ’90s,” said Seinfeld. “So if you’re a fan of the show, and you want Porsche memorabilia from the show, this would be the piece.”

He explains that after buying the car new, he drove it to the set of “Seinfeld” every day from 1996 to 1998 — the show’s final three seasons. He must not have lived very far from the lot, because today, the car has just 26,000 miles (41,843 km) on the odometer.
The auction page on BaT indicates that the car, which is powered by a 3.6-liter flat-six with a five-speed manual transmission, is mechanically sound. In 2023, it got a thorough servicing, and its fuel filter, spark plugs, drive belts, engine insulation, shifter shaft seal, tires, and brake hoses were all replaced.
Seinfeld added on Spike’s Car Radio that even the targa top, which was frequently cited as the source of issues by owners, presented no problems for him in his time with the car. The only concern of note is that the front fenders and the fuel door show evidence of paintwork.
That all meant that this 911 sold for a pretty solid $164,000 when the auction ended Wednesday. While that’s nothing to sniff at, it’s hard not to wonder whether it would have sold for more if his name had been dropped in the sale page.
While it’s not clear why Seinfeld decided to sell this car specifically, he has been trimming down his car collection recently. He said he sold seven cars last year and, enticingly, teased that he will sell a total of five cars this year: fans may want to keep their attention locked on Bring a Trailer.
