Tyrese Haliburton, the Indiana Pacers point guard and newly announced NBA All-Star starter, finds himself navigating the complexities of the league’s eligibility criteria for key awards.

“I think it’s a stupid rule, like plenty of other guys in the league, but this is what the owners want, so as players we gotta do our job and play in 65 games if we’re able to,” Haliburton told The Athletic. “So that’s what I gotta do. I gotta take care of my body to be able to play in those games… As long as the owners are happy.”
Currently 23 years old, Haliburton’s season has been marred by 13 missed games, further compounded by an additional game where he played only 13 minutes, effectively counting as another absence.
A hamstring injury has been the primary culprit for his recent sidelining, affecting his participation in 10 of the last 11 games. Despite these challenges, Haliburton returned to the Pacers’ lineup against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday.
