Original Thor director Matthew Vaughn reveals why he didn't helm the 2011 movie that introduced Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder in the MCU. Released in Phase 1 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's timeline, Thor opened the door for the MCU's cosmic and magical stories. The 2011 film was directed by A Haunting in Venice director Kenneth Branagh, though Kick-Ass and Kingsman: The Secret Service director Matthew Vaughn was initially attached to helm it.
