I don’t know about you, but I’ve never felt busier! As each year passes, we all take on more and more. If you are feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and on the brink of burnout, you’re not alone. Burnout can affect anyone, regardless of profession or lifestyle, and it can leave you feeling exhausted and skin looking inflamed or dull. Here are some top tips for beating burnout.

How Do You Beat Burnout?
- Recognise the signs of burnout
Prevention is always better than the cure! It’s essential to recognise the signs of burnout. Burnout is characterised by feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion, increased mental distance being less productive at home or at work. If you identify with these symptoms, it’s time to take action and prevent the situation from getting worse. - Take a break
It might sound obvious, but when the pressure is on, taking a break might feel impossible. If you think you’re heading toward burnout, it is absolutely vital to prioritise taking a break so that you can recharge and tackle what needs doing effectively. Thinking that you will take a break once you’re done might be leaving it too late. - Find your antidotes
What is the opposite of burnout? Energy! Think about the activities that energise you and incorporate more of these into your life. Maybe it’s spending time with loved ones, having a long bath or an early night, or getting up early to exercise in the morning. Making time for activities that give you joy and energy will help to prevent burnout. - Mindfulness
Make time for mindfulness. Self-care is non-negotiable if you want to prevent burnout. If you don’t know where to start, check out one of these mindfulness apps and follow the steps to improved wellbeing. - Learn how to say no
Sounds so simple, doesn’t it?! But saying ‘no’ when you’re a people pleaser or used to getting everything done can be a real shift. You’ll never beat burnout if you don’t know how to set your boundaries, so if you are tired or stressed, say no to social events or extra work until you feel ready to say yes. - Get organised
When work is piling up, taking time to organise and prioritise tasks is essential. You might be more on top of things than you think, but you won’t be able to allay your stress until you know exactly what you still have to do. - Ask for help
If you only do one thing, make it this one! Trying to achieve everything on your own will only lead to burnout quicker. Telling just one person how you’re feeling will ease the burden a little. Ask for help with things that you’re struggling with, however hard it might feel.
