If you’ve ever wanted the chance to drive like Iron Man, your wish could become a reality. Robert Downey Jr. is sending six of his custom classic cars to be sold in support of the FootPrint Coalition, his nonprofit organization that is working toward a goal to advance the technologies that support a cleaner environment.
The fleet of six custom cars have been modified to be more eco-friendly in a variety of unique ways. For example, Downey is selling his 1966 Buick Riviera, which is powered by a modern hybrid system. Also from the General Motors realm is a fully electric 1972 Chevrolet K-10 Pickup, a 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible EV with an interior made from mushrooms, and a 1985 Chevrolet El Camino that gets its power from a turbocharged four-cylinder and also has a solar-powered bike rack in the bed.
Downey’s 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE runs on biodiesel and features an interior made from recycled plastic, and there’s a 1972 VW Bus powered by an EV West electric motor in the place of its original air-cooled engine. It also sports a solar-powered barbecue.
Four of the custom vehicles are coated in paint that is designed to reflect heat, while the K-10 pickup and Mercedes SE sport a vinyl wrap. All six cars will be on display at the Chicago Auto Show through February 19th.
Anyone can enter to win the vehicle of their choice by visiting rdjdreamcars.com. A $10 donation to the FootPrint Coalition equates to 10 entries. The more you donate, the more chances you have to win; $5,000 will get you 8500 entries. Tickets for the K-10 truck are no longer available, but there’s still time to enter to win the five other custom classics as one winner will be announced once a month through July.
