Following the introduction of the compact-sized 3008 last year, Peugeot is now wrapping up development on its next SUV, the 5008, which will be offered in both five- and seven-seater configurations. Similar to its smaller counterpart, the rebooted mid-size model will be available in both combustion-powered and pure electric variants, designated as the 5008 and E-5008 respectively.
After undergoing testing in France last fall, our spies recently caught Peugeot engineers working on the third generation of the 5008 as a fully electric prototype in Scandinavia near the Arctic Circle.
Despite the clever camouflage, it’s quite evident that this is the battery-powered E-5008. This is discernible not only from the yellow stickers and warning signs but also from the enclosed grille and the absence of exhaust tips, subtly distinguishing it from the ICE 5008 we recently caught testing.

The intricacies of the new model’s design are hard to spot due to the camouflage, but it’s evident that the new 5008 and E-5008 models will have notable differences compared to the outgoing model. The overall shape appears slightly sportier, with a rear window that’s more steeply raked to enhance aerodynamic efficiency. While the proportions look similar, the rear overhang of the new model appears longer. Additionally, this tester is equipped with wheels that appear identical to those fitted on the new E-3008.
It is safe to assume that many of the fresh styling elements of the E-5008’s smaller sibling will be present. This will most surely include similar thin LED headlights along with the three-stripe ‘tiger claw’ light signature, as well as an intricate grille design. The rear end of the E-3008 also sports bold LED taillights with a three-stripe design, which will likely influence those of the E-5008.

Moving to the interior, the 5008 series will showcase Peugeot’s latest i-Cockpit design, first seen in the 3008. Premium variants will get a massive curved 21.0-inch touchscreen serving as both an instrument panel and an infotainment display placed atop the dashboard. Furthermore, Peugeot’s updated version of its ‘i-Toggle’ shortcut buttons and the characteristic compact steering wheel are also expected to be present.
Platform and powertrains
We know that the Peugeot 5008 will be underpinned by the STLA Medium platform from Stellantis, just like its little brother, offering a similar mix of hybrid (5008) and battery-electric (E-5008) powertrains.
The new 5008 series will have a slightly larger footprint than the current model with an overall length that exceeds 4,700 mm (185 inches) compared to its predecessor’s 4,641 mm (182.7 inches). This will allow it to better compete with other midsize SUVs like the Skoda Kodiaq and the Renault Espace.
A variety of powertrain options will be on offer for the E-5008, potentially mirroring those found in the E-3008. In the case of the smaller SUV, it is available with 73 kWh and 98 kWh battery packs with horsepower figures ranging from 207 hp up to 316 hp. The range of the E-3008 varies between 326 miles (525 km) and 435 miles (700 km) and similar figures can be expected from the E-5008.
The new 5008 and E-5008 are expected to be revealed soon before going on sale across Europe and other markets around the world in the third quarter of the year.
