The next Avengers movie that Marvel is developing is undergoing big changes behind the scenes. According to a recent report from THR, Marvel Studios is working on rewriting Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, “which will now either minimize the character or excise him entirely.”
It was also reported that the title of the film will be changed to remove the mention of Kang, who has been played in the MCU by Jonathan Majors.
None of this is surprising. I think most Marvel fans expected this to happen after Majors was fired by Marvel when he was found guilty of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment.
A lot of fans have been hoping to see Doctor Doom rise up as the next big bad Marvel villain, especially with The Fantastic 4 coming next year, which will set up the villain. Or, maybe even Galactus, which would be one of the ultimate villains.
The creator of Marvel’s Loki series, Michael Waldron, was hired to write Avengers: The Kang Dynasty as well as Avengers: Secret Wars.
It was also rumored that Sam Raimi was being looked at as a possible director for the two Avengers movies after Destin Daniel Cretton dropped out.
Avengers: Kang Dynasty is dated to be released on May 1, 2026, which gives Waldron and Marvel more then enough time to figure things out. The movie will precede Avengers: Secret Wars which will be released on May 7, 2027.
