One of the most anticipated launches from Mahindra this year is their Thar 5-door version. The 3-door version was an instant hit among buyers, and we are expecting a similar response for the 5-door version too (fingers crossed). There are several videos and images of nearly production-ready versions of the Mahindra Thar being tested on the road. However, we have now come across a video where a test mule of the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door is seen struggling in slush in Manali.

The video has been shared by Rajesh Thakur on his Instagram page. It was recorded from the window of a building opposite to where the Mahindra Thar was parked. It seems like the person testing the vehicle had parked on the road without realizing how slippery the surface was. The snow on the road had melted and mixed with the sticky soil on the roadside.
The Mahindra Thar 5-door seen here is the 2WD version, which makes things a lot more challenging. There is no traction on the rear wheels as seen in the video. The tires are simply spinning freely, and the people around the vehicle are trying their best to get the vehicle out and also save themselves from embarrassment. People are trying to push the car out, and one of them even put stones under the rear tire to gain traction and get out of the slush.

It seems like their trick was not working, as the heavy SUV was not going anywhere. The video ends abruptly, and we don’t know how the SUV was saved. Did they ask for help from the locals, or did they simply drive the SUV forward by putting stones in front of the tires for traction? The comment section of this video has a variety of reactions. One user commented, “Maybe it’s a 2-wheel drive. Do not underestimate the power of the Mahindra Thar.” There are others who were making fun of the Mahindra Thar, saying that it failed even before launching in the market.
There are a couple of reasons why we feel the Mahindra Thar got stuck here. First is that it is a RWD version. As seen here, only the rear wheels had power. The manufacturer might be doing high altitude testing for the RWD version here. The other reason could be the tires. The RWD version might be using HT tires, which are not suitable for such conditions. The 4×4 version of the Thar comes with AT tires, which helps it in off-roading right after leaving the dealership.
The Mahindra Thar seen here looks the same as the ones spotted before. However, it is still using the old alloy wheels. We see the sunroof too. The SUV will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options, the same engine as the 3-door version but in a higher state of tune. Mahindra will offer petrol and diesel engine options with 4×4 and RWD options to price it aggressively. Mahindra is expected to launch the Thar 5-door officially in the coming months.
