Hemmings Marketplace has an unmatched variety of vehicles for sale – thousands in all. We thought it would be fun to count down 10 numerically named rides that caught our eye, beginning with a 10-cylinder Detroit monster and winding up with famous ‘1’ from a collector-favorite German brand. Enjoy this eclectic, arithmetically related cluster of classics!
10) 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10

We kick off our countdown with an SRT-10 Convertible in rare Viper Blue Metallic. The 600-bhp, 202-mph, V10-powered machine has a black soft top and a black-and-blue, suede-and-leather interior. It’s said to be in excellent condition and has two previous owners.
The 2008 model-year Viper incorporated a number of desirable upgrades, including a power hike, a new six-speed Tremec manual, and a speed-sensing limited-slip diff. There were suspension revisions for better handling and the exhaust was re-routed to reduce heat soak into the cabin.
The Canadian selling dealer in Kelowna, British Columbia pledges to make life easy for out-of-town clients, including shipping and cross-border brokerage. Asking price is $77,319.

9) 1946 Singer 9 Roadster

Only four cylinders, not nine, for this cute little Singer, which is billed as a four-seat alternative to contemporary MGs. Singer had competition pedigree too, however, with earlier 9s competing at Le Mans in the 1930s. A partial repaint means that this apparently rust- and rot-free example, from 1946, is finished in a couple of different shades of red. We think that only adds to its character!
Currently on a clean title in Texas after being imported from Quebec, Canada in 2022, the 1-liter Brit is said to suit smaller drivers. A recent modification is the addition of a billet water pump to solve a previous overheating issue. It also has the four-speed manual gearbox that replaced the three-speed in post-war Singer roadsters. The interior was recently reupholstered to “closely mimic the original”, according to the seller.
The Singer was being sold on a Make Offer listing with $11,000 offered at the time of writing, edging closer to the $12,500 asking price.

8) 1946 Mercury Eight

This second-generation Mercury Eight is being sold after 57 years owned by the same family. The 239ci (3.9-liter) flathead V8 has been recently serviced to get the Mercury driving again and the coupe thoroughly inspected by a third party. It was previously restored in 1997.
A comprehensive set of professionally taken photographs gives a clear indication of what you’re in for with this attractive burgundy Eight, which dates from 1946, when production restarted after World War II. The inspection reports “some minor dings, scratches, and chips in the paint” as well as some oxidization and some rust on the driver’s door. Inside is a tear-free beige cloth upholstery and an art-deco-styled dash. A start button on the left side means you can operate the shift lever for the three-speed manual at the same time.
True mileage is unknown but there are 4,009 miles on the five-digit odometer. The buyer’s to-do list will reportedly include attention to the suspension bushings and radiator, and new hood supports and antenna, but appears to be reflected in the modest, $20,000 asking price for this Sacramento, California-based car.

7) 2024 Caterham Super 7 2000

Modern cars don’t get more classic than the timeless Caterham 7, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year – with the car’s Lotus roots stretching back still further. More than 22,000 have been built in that time, by both the factory and enthusiast owners, comprised of over 100 different variants and powered by more than 35 different models of engine!
This brand-new, 2024 model is offered in kit form by a Florida Caterham dealer that will also build it for you, for a fee. US delivery from the UK is scheduled for March. Finished in the classic ‘Vintage Green’ with yellow nose band, the roadster has a Bisquit leather interior with wood-effect dash, five-speed manual transmission, upgraded brakes and master cylinder and a rear anti-roll bar. Its 180 bhp comes from a 2-liter Ford Duratec that revs to more than 7,000 rpm. If you find a track with a straightaway long enough to reach it, we reckon the Seven’s maximum speed will feel considerably faster than the quoted 130 mph!

6) 1948 Hudson Super Six 481 Sedan

It wasn’t as revolutionary as its 1916 forebear, which introduced a counterbalanced crankshaft, but the 1948 Super Six was innovative and stylish all the same – with six cylinders under the hood, naturally. This example for sale in Morgantown, Pennsylvania has those signature, low-slung Hudson curves and has spent 40 years in its current ownership.
The car has not been the subject of a full restoration but is said to present and drive well. The exterior was resprayed in black some time ago and now has evidence of scratches, chips, paint pops and surface rust. There is also some wear, slight scratches and marring to the front bumper, but the rear bumper is in good shape.
Step down into the cabin and you’ll find a mixture of original materials (tan mohair headliner, door panels, dash) and more recent replacements (tan cord seats, caramel brown carpet). The 262ci (4.3-liter) inline motor is fed by a rebuilt single-barrel carburetor. The brakes were renewed in 2022 and the stainless-steel fuel tank is also new, but the exhaust needs a new muffler.
The Super Six is said to start and drive well apart from some looseness in the front end. For sale in a Classified Ad at $16,900, it feels like a lot of car for the money.

5) 2004 Factory Five Racing Mk2 Roadster

Five is for…Factory Five. Built in 2001 as a promotional vehicle, this great-looking Mk2 is finished in classic Cobra racing style – blue with white stripes. The fuel-injected 347ci (5.7-liter) stroker V8 boasts a finned, Cobra-branded air cleaner and valve covers and benefits from recent work. It has a new Holley Terminator X engine management system and a new fuel-injection system while the cylinder heads were rebuilt by SD Racing of Greenville, South Carolina in 2017.
Power goes to the staggered-width, 17-inch Halibrand-style wheels through a TREMEC five-speed manual transmission. There are also Wilwood disc brakes, coilover suspension and side pipes. The black interior has bucket seats and a new instrument panel with CAN bus-controlled Holley gauges. This eye-catching Cobra replica is for sale in Vancouver, British Columbia on a Make Offer listing, with 18,000 miles on the clock.

4) 2002 Porsche Carrera 4 Convertible

Four means four-wheel drive, of course! No, this Porsche is not an air-cooled 993 but if it were, it would be more than twice the price. The 996 is still a looker, especially in facelifted form, and there aren’t many ways you’ll get into a 911 nowadays for less than $30k.
This clean-titled, 2002 Carrera 4 Convertible is finished in dark silver over black and comes with a factory hard top and manual transmission. Said to be well maintained and to drive properly, it’s had the all-important intermediate shaft (IMS) bearing upgrade. There are no issues with the electrically retractable roof, either. This accessible 911 is for sale with an LA dealer at $25,700, but they are, “willing to discuss a reasonable offer”. Go get it!

3) 2014 Morgan 3 Wheeler

Fancy three wheels on your wagon? Since 2011, Morgan has once again produced three-wheeled cars that evoke the classic models of more than a century ago. Unlike the latest Ford-powered Super 3s to emerge from the factory in Malvern, UK however, this 2014 example still has the S&S X-Wedge up front for that original V-twin aesthetic, mated to a five-speed Mazda manual transmission.
You wouldn’t expect a 3 Wheeler to have high mileage but this British Racing Green car with a tan interior has only 3,400 on the clock. A 2013 model that was built with 2014 upgrades – bevel box mount, comfort suspension and urban cooling fan – it has black spoked wheels, a removable luggage rack, green mohair tonneau cover and a Morgan-branded car cover.
The Lake Bluff, IL-based seller rightly points out that you’ll struggle to replicate the 3 Wheeler’s visceral driving experience in any other car. People will be staring at you too, but in a good way! Asking price is $52,995.

2) 1957 Aston Martin DB2/4 Mk2 “Tickford Coupé”

We get two twos for the price of one by including this rare Tickford Coupé – a Mk2 version of the DB2/4. First delivered in London, England in 1957, this coupe is one of only 34 produced with the unusual “Notchback Coupé” bodywork.
Subject to a recent bare-metal restoration in the land of its birth, the coupe has been refinished in the original two-tone grey – Dark Grey for the lower body and Moonbeam Grey for the roof – over a red leather interior with matching red wheels.
The 2,922cc, 165hp inline-six has also been overhauled as part of the fully documented restoration and fitted with a Kenlowe fan and a 1-2-3-ignition set.

1) 1961 Volkswagen T1 Samba

So to the number one. Volkswagen T1s don’t get more original than this beauty – coincidentally listed with the same dealer as our Aston in Brummen, Netherlands. Having traveled just 8,469 miles (13,551km) to date, it’s an unrestored time capsule.
The Samba spent 50 years with firefighters in Wiesau, Northern Bavaria, near the Czech border. After entering service in 1961, it took part in numerous exercises and was fastidiously maintained – all of which is logged in its original service logbook. Having gone straight into a collection on retirement in 2011, it remains in totally original condition save for some light respraying on that unmistakeable, split-color front end. The body panels are said to be perfectly aligned and the spartan interior intact.
The seller claims that there is, “nothing better for sale if you are looking for an original Volkswagen T1 with verified low mileage”, and on the evidence of the pictures, it’s hard to argue.
