The Volvo XC40 is by far the best-selling vehicle in the Netherlands in February.
Dutch consumers bought 30,414 new cars in February, a solid 8.9% year-on-year increase. The year-to-date volume is as a result up 6.9% to 64,810. The Top four brands all vastly outrun the market with double-digit year-on-year gains. Kia (+59.1%) shoots up five spots on January to lead the way with 12% share, its highest since July 2022 (13.4%). Toyota (+53.2%) is bumped down to #2 ahead of Volvo (+80.7%) up two spots to #3 and Skoda (+65.3%) down one to #4. Tesla (+77.5%) and BMW (+22.2%) also excel in the remainder of the Top 10 but Volkswagen (-28.2%), #1 over the Full Year 2023, struggles mightily at #9. Zeekr (#36) is the best-selling newcomer.
Model-wise the Volvo XC40 (+92.55) is a distant leader with 4.7% share, 1.5 times the amount of any other nameplate in market. The Kia Picanto (+80.3%) is back up 8 spots on January to #2, distancing the Hyundai i10 (+169.2%) and Kia Niro (+52.4%). Boosted by its facelift, the Tesla Model 3 (+1358.7%) jumps to #5 and now ranks #9 year-to-date vs. #11 over the Full Year 2023. 9 of the Top 10 models beat the market, with the Skoda Octavia (+222.1%), Toyota Yaris Cross and Kia Sportage (+73.9%) the best performers. #1 last month and over the Full Year 2023, the Tesla Model Y (-6.9%) is down to an unusual 9th place.
