“We knew we’d never see it again…” Drafthouse Films has revealed an official trailer for a documentary film titled Kim’s Video, which first premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival last year. After playing on the festival circuit for a year, it’s now finally set for release in select theaters starting in April this spring. Drafthouse Films is releasing and hosting screenings, which will make even more sense after you watch this film. Playing with the forms and tropes of various cinema genres, the filmmaker sets off on a quest to find a legendary lost video collection of 55,000 movies hiding in a small town in Sicily. Kim’s Video is about the iconic New York City video rental shop known as Kim’s Video that used to be in Manhattan’s East Village. After running for decades, they sold off their entire collection of thousands of videos to a town in Italy – and they were never seen again. Until this filmmaker decide to find out what happened and off he goes on a misadventure. Alas this doc is not very good, I wanted to enjoy it but it’s often quite annoying.
