When it comes to iconic motorcycles that India has seen over the years, the name RD350 is one that tops the list. This two-stroke bike was one of the most popular models sold in the country, and people are now restoring a number of old models to fuel their nostalgia. Now, most of these restorations are based on real RD 350s from the past. However, recently a shop from Karnataka has done something unique. They have created an homage to the legendary Yamaha RD350 based on a new Royal Enfield Interceptor 650.

Royal Enfield Interceptor converted into Yamaha RD350
The video of this extremely unique motorcycle has come courtesy of Bossyamakaze from Instagram. The shop, based out of Karnataka, has done something very special, and that is they have retrofitted a new Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 motorcycle with a body kit inspired by the iconic Yamaha RD350.

In the behind-the-scenes videos of this unique build, the shop has shared their journey of transformation of this motorcycle. The bike has been given new chrome front and rear fenders, a new handlebar to mimic the RD350, a new single-piece seat, new chrome mirrors, and a brand-new paint job inspired by the legendary RD350. To keep it interesting, instead of the Yamaha RD350 badging, the bike gets 650 and Interceptor badging on the fuel tank and airbox covers.

The shop has also shared a video of the bike’s new exhaust note. In order to give this bike a similar sound to the iconic Yamaha RD350, the shop has given it a brand-new set of dual exhaust. When sitting at idle or being revved while riding, the bike can be heard having that unique 2-stroke sound. For those who may hear this bike for the first time, it will be hard for them to recognize that it is a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650.
Yamaha RD350
Launched back in 1973, the Yamaha Rajdoot 350, as mentioned, was one of the most iconic bikes from its era. This motorcycle was assembled in India between 1983–1990 by Escorts group under the brand name Rajdoot 350. The company sold two models of the Rajdoot 350 in India: a High Torque and a Low Torque model.
The ‘High Torque’ version offered 30.5 bhp, and the later ‘Low Torque’ made only 27 bhp. The lower power output was a result of the engine being detuned for better fuel economy. By the time the production ended in 1990, the bike was nearly 100% sourced in India, with very few Japanese parts.
MS Dhoni is a huge Yamaha RD350 fan
The Indian cricketing legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a huge fan of the Yamaha RD350. He owns several RD350s in his collection. Most recently, he bought himself a custom RD350 restored by “Blue Smoke Customs,” based in Chandigarh.
The newly restored Yamaha RD350 bought by Dhoni boasts a custom British green paint job covering the fuel tank, side body panels, headlamp cowl, and the upper portion of the front telescopic forks. It also gets chrome-finished front and rear fenders, round amber turn indicator housings, twin exhaust pipes, and a tubular pillion grab rail.
In another video shared online, Dhoni was seen kickstarting his other Yamaha RD350 at his farmhouse. Apart from the RD350s, Dhoni also owns multiple other bikes, including Yamaha RX100, Suzuki Shogun, and antique bikes from Norton, Jawa, and BSA, just to name a few of the other two-stroke bikes.
