A 1969 Cadillac Eldorado fit for a king sold for $253,000 at Mecum Glendale 2024 at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The original Eldorado was purchased new by Elvis Presley from the Hillcrest Motor Company in Beverly Hills, California on May 21, 1969. The King of rock and roll obtained the classic Cadillac right around the time he recorded several upcoming hits, including “In the Ghetto,” “Suspicious Minds” and “Kentucky Rain.”
This car, used by Elvis and Priscilla Presley at their Beverly Hills home from 1969-1973, was sold with documentation, including the original purchase contract and office car record in Elvis’ name. After Elvis’ ownership, the car switched hands over to the King’s mechanic, Max Service, who released his proof of California ownership certificate and the matching blue license plates to the new owner. The new owner’s name is not disclosed.
The 1969 Cadillac Eldorado carries its original 472 cubic-inch V8 backed by an automatic transmission. It is noted that the original transmission was replaced back in 1981. The odometer reads 46,116 miles, revealing a good amount of time spent being occupied by Elvis considering his busy rock star lifestyle.
Inside, the classic car’s black interior matches the preserved exterior finish. The factory-installed leather interior is still present, and the seat buckets are divided by a center console. Creature comforts include automatic climate control, a tilt and telescopic steering column, a rear defogger, tinted glass, power windows and locks, a remote trunk release, variable speed wipers and cruise control. The OEM AM/FM stereo features dual dash speakers.
When it crossed the auction block, the Cadillac still retained its 1969 California smog system parts. The classic also features power steering and brakes and was reportedly sold with a new battery and new white stripe tires.
