The Mangaka Kohei Horikoshi created two wonderful characters besides Deku (Miroriya Izuku) – Shoto Todoroki and Katsuki Bakugo.
While Deku is trying to control his quirk ‘One for All’ in the second season, the UA Sports festival was meaningful for everyone. Both Bakugo and Todoroki wanted to defeat Midoriya (Deku) and realised Deku’s true potential. The real question is in the finale, Todoroki vs Bakugo, who emerged victorious? Who won the UA Sports Festival?
Who wins Bakugo or Todoroki?
Shoto Todoroki has always denied his quirk’s full power due to his complicated relationship with his father, Endeavor. Todoroki can generate both ice (right) and fire (left) but he never tries to use fire.
Only after Todoroki’s fight against Midoriya Izuku, Katsuki Todoroki used his right hand (fire abilities) to win. Advancing in the final, Katsuki Bakugo, faced Shoto Todoroki.
It was a well-balanced match between Todoroki and Bakugo as both have shown exceptional skills and challenged Midoriya. Todoroki could easily beat Bakugo if he wanted to, or if he used both his Half cold-Half hot abilities. Bakugo’s quirk explosion was a well-matched quirk with Todoroki’s fire.
During the UA sports festival, without a doubt, Bakugo can be undefeatable, but Todoroki is stronger. Todoroki didn’t even use his full potential and fought neck-to-neck with Bakugo in the finale. Even till the last moment, it was hard to tell who would win. In terms of overall strength, Todoroki was definitely stronger than Bakugo.
As much as it breaks everyone’s heart, the winning result was disastrous. It’s because Bakugo won and Todoroki lost, it’s because, in terms of strength and fight, Todoriki fought with a handicap. Bakugo won against Todoroki but his pride won’t let him accept the win.
What would have happened if Todoroki used his full power?
During the Second season of My Hero Academia, the UA Sports Arc, Shoto Todoroki was definitely stronger than Katsuki Bakugo. The result could have been different at least in the finale if Todoroki had used his fire powers to subdue Bakugo’s explosion.
Todoroki’s over-dependence on his ice abilities created a handicap for him. By some chance, if Bakugo had energy left he could have won, but it’s hard to say.
Had Todoroki used his full powers, he could have won, and Bakugo could have lost. Bakugo could have accepted this outcome, but unfortunately, Todoroki gave up at the final moment which enraged Bakugo.
Why did Todoroki let Bakugou win?
It was only natural that Todoroki stopped his powers mid-battle. Todoroki had always denied his powers from his father Endevor.
Maybe, because he was motivated and influenced by Deku in the previous match, he used his full power. However, after realisation, Todoroki concluded that it was not okay to use the power just to win without resolving his past issues, especially, with his mom. At the last moment, Todoroki backed down, letting Bakugo win.
Why was Bukugo Angry?
It was natural for Katsuki Bakugo to lose his mind because, in the end, moment, Shoto Todoroki extinguished his flames which gave him the handicap. According to Bakugo, the fight and title would be meaningless because Todoroki fought with Midoriya (Deku) at his full power but not with Bakugo.
It did hurt his ego and pride because winning against Todoroki was meaningless when he didn’t even use his full abilities. This made Bakugo angry to the point the game master (Midnight) had to intervene and put Bakugo to sleep. Even at the award ceremony he was tied up and chained against his will.
Who is stronger Bakugo or Todoroki?
It’s debatable, but in terms of power and intellect, both Bakugo and Todoroki have similar capabilities. Both have room to grow, but in terms of using full quirk power, during the UA Sports finals, Todoroki was stronger than Bakugo.
This is why Bakugo was unhappy with the endgame. The winning outcome had no meaning because Todoroki never used his full power letting Bakugo win.
Who won the UA Sports Festival?
Whether it was fair or not, whether Bakugo likes it or not, the winner was Katsuki Bakugo. Shoto Todoroki was knocked out when he stopped his flame and Bakugo blasted him off out of the arena.
Katsuki Bakugo emerged as the winner of the UA Sports Festival keeping his pledge to remain number 1. Shoto Todoroki was placed second. Both Tenya Iida and Fumikage Tokoyami won third place in the UA Sports Festival

The finale face-off fight between Todoroki vs Bakugo was held on Boku no Hero Academia Season 2 Episode 12.
